Neoscona crucifera
- Spotted Orbweaver spiders have round, hairy abdomens with intricate patterns. Their legs display alternating light and dark brown bands. The undersurface of the abdomen is black, with two white spots.
- Spotted Orbweavers are found throughout North America, from southern Canada to Mexico. They are most common in the eastern United States.
- Spotted Orbweaver spiders prefer open, sunny areas with vertical structures to support their webs. They are often found in gardens, fields, forest edges, and around buildings.
- Spotted Orbweavers primarily eat flying insects that become trapped in their webs, including flies, moths, beetles, and mosquitoes.
- Female Spotted Orbweavers lay several hundred eggs in late summer or fall. The eggs are encased in a silken sac and typically hatch the following spring.
- A group of spiders can be called a “cluster” or “clutter” of spiders.
- Spotted Orbweaver spiders typically live for about one year.
