It was one year ago today that I photographed this immature male Downy Woodpecker. So far this year, I haven’t seen any young Downy Woodpeckers.
Immature male Downy Woodpecker in summer
Sometimes I like to go back through my files and see what I was photographing around the same time in previous years. Sometimes when I do that, I find forgotten photo gems, dust them off, and share them. Today I’m doing that with this image.
I’m wondering if I’ll see any immature Downy Woodpeckers that hatched this year. So far this nesting season, I haven’t seen any females coming to the suet feeder. Just one male, who can get very insistent about me putting it up.
I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed that I see some Downy Woodpecker chicks before the nesting season is over. I truly enjoy having them in my viewfinder.
Life is good.

Sweet shot. I love the eye contact. Thanks Mia
A treat that I hope you see soon.
I have two couples but no juvenile yet.
What a cutie!
