Beaverhead County, Montana
- Beaverhead County, located in the southwestern corner of Montana, is the state’s largest county by area and a land of wide-open spaces, mountain ranges, and pristine rivers.
- Encompassing more than 5,500 square miles, Beaverhead County features landscapes shaped by the Beaverhead Mountains, the Pioneer Mountains, and the vast high plains. This diverse terrain provides habitat for many species of wildlife including mule deer, elk, moose, pronghorn, black bear, coyotes, and numerous birds such as sandhill cranes, mountain bluebirds, and golden eagles.
- Within its valleys and ridges flow the headwaters of the Beaverhead and Big Hole Rivers, lifelines for native trout and waterfowl alike. These waterways, along with alpine meadows and sagebrush plains, create superb conditions for birdwatching and photography throughout all seasons.
- The county also carries deep historical echoes, where the Lewis and Clark Expedition once passed through in 1805 guided by Sacajawea. Their route followed the same river corridors that sustain wildlife today, reminding visitors that this rugged landscape has long been a crossroads between nature and history.
