Montana’s vast and varied landscapes capture the untamed spirit of the American West, shaped by towering mountain ranges, sweeping prairies, and glacial lakes that mirror the endless sky.
Throughout the state, national wildlife refuges such as the National Bison Range, Red Rock Lakes, and Benton Lake safeguard vital habitat for countless species of migratory birds, large mammals, and native plants. Elk, pronghorn, sandhill cranes, trumpeter swans, and the majestic grizzly bear thrive among Montana’s wild spaces.
Montana’s natural scenery reflects the convergence of high mountain ecosystems and broad river valleys, with habitats ranging from alpine meadows and aspen groves to prairie potholes and freshwater wetlands.
