Little Blue Heron on the hunt – Nikon D200, handheld, f6.3, 1/750, ISO 200, Nikkor 80-400mm VR at 340mm, natural light
This Little Blue Heron was photographed in Florida as it hunted for prey in a shallow lagoon the edge of a marsh in late afternoon light. The adult heron stalked small fish, crabs, and shrimp while I sat in the warm water photographing it and the other birds nearby.
Little Blue Herons are blue as adults, blue and white or piebald when they are immature, and white as juveniles.
Life is good.

Nicely saturated color on the bird, Mia.
Thanks Julie, the light that day did help with the color of the heron.
I have never seen one so small before. He’s beautiful. Carol
Thank you Carol, The Little Blue Heron is much smaller than the Great Blue Heron.
