Twelve-spotted Skimmer dragonflies are medium-sized dragonflies with dark brown bodies, broad wings marked with twelve distinct black spots and white patches in males. Females lack the white patches and show only the dark spots.

Five days ago I photographed a lifer dragonfly when I found a male Twelve-spotted Skimmer that was hanging around a spring-fed seep next to a gravel road in Box Elder County.
