It just dawned on me that I haven’t shared a single Ruby-throated Hummingbird photo so far this season. The time to fix that is today.
Adult Ruby-throated Hummingbird male on a foggy morning – Canon R7, handheld, f8, 1/200, ISO 1000, +0.3 EV, Canon EF 100-400mm II at 371mm, natural light
I took photos of this adult male Ruby-throated Hummingbird earlier this month on a fairly foggy morning. The fog helped soften the grass and soil in the background.
It was still light enough, though, that I was able to capture the gorgeous ruby red of the male’s gorget.
Since I took this photo, young hummingbirds have started showing up at the feeders too. They’re amazing to watch as they sky dance around each other at the feeders.
The hummingbirds will be around for several more weeks, and I’m hoping to sit out on the deck with them in my viewfinder.
The higher temps seem to be bringing the Ruby-throated Hummingbirds to the feeders. They’re busy all day long now.
Life is good.

Terrific shot. Wonderful contrasting colors. I think it was on the PBS Nature series that I saw a special about hummingbirds, and how incredibly far they migrate every year. Amazing! Thanks Mia.
