Adult male Northern Cardinal with breakfast – Canon R7, handheld, f8, 1/500, ISO 1000, +0.3 EV, Canon RF 100-500mm at 500mm, natural light
Earlier this month, I photographed this adult male Northern Cardinal in the yard as he came in to snatch a suet ball for breakfast in front of a River Birch.
There are a lot of cardinals here in the yard, and every time I see them, I have to smile. My mom loved these “red birds,” so they remind me of her. And after going so long without seeing them at all in Utah, I get excited to see them and know I’ll never take them for granted.
Later this week it might snow here, and if it does, I might be able to take more photos of Northern Cardinals in beautiful white fluffy stuff. I’d like that, a lot.
In the meantime, I’m enjoying these cardinals each time I step out the front door.
Life is good.

Thanks once again for the photos of the Cardinal. My mother was from Missouri and we never saw them even on trips back to visit relatives. Wish the red birds were in my area of Wyoming.
So handsome!
