There were swirling clouds enveloping some of the snow-covered peaks of the Wasatch Mountains yesterday morning. I felt simply compelled to take a few photos.

I had my bird gear with me. In hindsight, I wish I had also taken my backup Nikon D810 with my 18-200mm lens for wider views of the mountains.

I still wanted photos of the snowy mountain peaks, clouds, and sky, so I used my long lens and photographed the mountains from inside my Jeep.

It was lovely to see sunshine for a change. This January has been mostly cloudy and gray here at home, but with very little snow in the valley. It hasn’t been a great month for getting out into the field with the birds.

I don’t mind photographing in falling snow or heavy fog; in fact, I love those conditions for my bird photography. But just plain gray, cloudy days? Not so much.

I am glad that the mountain ranges are getting much needed snow and moisture.

Life is good.

Mia
