Band-winged Meadowhawks

Sympetrum semicinctum

Band-winged Meadowhawk males have a bright red abdomens with black markings on the lower sides and on the top of the segments 8 and 9, creating a U like pattern. Female Band-winged Meadowhawk are mainly greenish-yellowish or orange, with red over green on eyes and extended blackish markings on the abdomen.

At Farmington Bay WMA yesterday I saw and photographed two kinds of meadowhawk dragonflies including this Band-winged Meadowhawk resting on a boulder.
