Just a simple image today of a juvenile White-crowned Sparrow with a pumpkin patch in the background as the month of October comes to an end.

There’s a kind of magic in October. The light gets lower, the pumpkins get riper, and the world leans into the warmth of oranges and golds.

Out at the edge of a patch dotted with vines and bright sunflowers, I spotted this young White-crowned Sparrow.

Just sitting there. Calm. Watchful. Like a little period at the end of autumn’s sentence.

These quiet moments are what I live for.

Wandering the margins of farm fields, where wild things still find room.

The pumpkin patch isn’t just about decorations or harvest. It’s alive. There’s the dry rustle of wings, the whisper of feathers skimming through crisp leaves.

It’s not the pumpkins I’m after. It’s the presence. The stillness. The birds that show up when no one else is looking.

Life is good.
