Moose cow in the Targhee National Forest – Nikon D7100, f6.3, 1/1600, ISO 500, +0.7 EV, Nikkor 500mm VR with 1.4x TC, natural light
Being in the right place at the right time can be awesome like last year being in the Targhee National Forest when a cow Moose and calf walked down a hill. As soon as I spotted and pointed them out I was taking images of them.
The Moose were close, so close that the cow filled my frame and I didn’t have time to remove my teleconverter so in a few images parts of her legs were clipped but I still had enough pixels to crop and have a few portrait shots of the cow with her sleek, shiny summer coat.
Both the cow and the calf were gorgeous.
I’m heading up to Idaho and Montana today and maybe I will spot this Moose or her calf while I am there. Who knows?
Life is good.

Fabulous images … these are such amazing-looking creatures!!!!!
Thanks Lois
Nice portrait Mia. Have a good trip north. Maybe the Mosquitos won’t be as bad there.
Utahbooklover, the mosquitoes near the water are bad but better than they have been on Antelope Island.
Thank you
Wow. Love that elegant face and the glossy coat.
Holy cow! Literally!!! You take some of the most amazing close up portraits!!! She’s a real beauty, dressed in her finest silky coat…what a pleasure to see such a healthy animal….
