I went back to the Stansbury Mountains yesterday hoping to photograph the nesting House Wrens and other birds but I think the cold weather had an impact on the bird activity. It had actually snowed overnight and although it was just a light dusting the temps had dropped to below freezing and the birds just weren’t as active as they had been the day before. The roads were a lot sloppier than they had been the day before when I had driven into the mountains and at times it felt like sliding over slick pudding instead of an actual dirt road.

My best photo of the morning was a Mule Deer doe in a stand of junipers and even then a cloud blocked the beautiful light. Yes, that is snow on the junipers, on May 1st!

I took a few cell phone shots of the junipers just to remind myself of how fickle the weather can be here in spring.

Today is supposed to be sunny and about ten degrees warmer than it was yesterday. I think the birds will be warmer today than they were yesterday and so will I.

Life is good.
