It isn’t really spring yet, but I’ve already seen a bee, flies, moths, and butterflies. They reminded me of this Checkered White butterfly I photographed last year.

I was down in southern Oklahoma then and had driven to Tishomingo National Wildlife Refuge in Johnston County on an early June morning.

Tishomingo NWR has fields and fields of wildflowers. In the spring, those patches of wildflowers were insect magnets, drawing in beetles, bees, ants, wasps, and beautiful butterflies.

I stopped to photograph this Checkered White butterfly nectaring on a Black-eyed Susan because I recognized this butterfly species. I’d photographed them before at Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge in northern Utah.

I’m very much looking forward to photographing all of the insects and spiders I will be seeing soon. I bet I get a few lifer insects too!

Birds are and will always be my primary and most loved subjects, I just can’t resist photographing everything else I see while out in the field. I don’t want to resist, why would ?

Life is good. Birds and nature make it even better!
