Today I’m sharing a few recent videos that I’ve taken of the Snow Geese that are at Sequoyah National Wildlife Refuge in Oklahoma right now. The first two were taken on Thanksgiving Day, and the final one was taken on the last day of November.

The sound of the geese circling the fields and flying in is something else. When there are thousands of geese, their calls can get pretty loud, but to me it’s pure magic.
Thanksgiving morning I heard the geese overhead, heading toward the fields on the refuge where they usually feed. I drove back to the spot where I figured they’d be, hoping they’d land on the good side of the light. They did.

Even while feeding, the geese call constantly. They scuffle and chase each other while more geese land and take off from the fields.
There were probably a few Ross’s Geese mixed in with the larger Snow Geese. I know I photographed a few Ross’s Geese landing.

This past Sunday I was back at the refuge bright and early, and so were the geese. They came in by the thousands and landed not long after sunrise, glowing in the warm morning light. I zoomed out so I could capture them landing along with some of the habitat of the refuge in my videos.
I’m completely mesmerized by these geese. I’ll be sharing more photos and videos of them on the wing and feeding soon.
Life is good.
