Male Slate-colored Dark-eyed Junco in a snowstorm – Canon R7, handheld, f8, 1/1000, ISO 1600, +2.3 EV, Canon RF 100-500mm at 500mm, natural light
This morning, I’m sharing a simple male Slate-colored Dark-eyed Junco photo I took one week ago during a snowstorm. The junco was waiting his turn to feed.
I had tossed out some small suet balls for the birds to eat because it was bitter cold and suet is high protein.
Even though I was bundled up in multiple layers and sitting in my camping chair on the porch, I didn’t last long in the deep freeze before I had to go back inside to get warm.
I can only imagine how cold all the birds were.
The Dark-eyed Juncos were the most numerous birds I saw that snowy day, with the White-throated Sparrows in second.
Here it is, a week later. The temp this morning is a mere 22°F. There is still a layer of ice covered snow on the ground here. Tomorrow the snow should finally disappear because the high is going to be around 60°F.
I’m ready for warmer temps. I bet the birds, including this male Slate-colored Dark-eyed Junco, are ready too!
Life is good.
Mia

Very pretty, envious of your snow.
