I haven’t had many opportunities to take Willow Flycatcher photos so far this year but two days ago I had one in my view finder and took images of it. I’ve been seeing a Willow Flycatchers in this area for weeks now but its favorite perch is nearly hidden from my view. I suspect the flycatcher has a nest nearby because it often chases away other birds that come into the area.

Two days ago the Willow Flycatcher left its favorite perch and flew in close enough that I was able to take a series of photos of it in front of a small willow thicket.

I believe the small white streak on the crown of this flycatcher is where it got splashed by the poop of another bird. Click the image above to view larger.

Then the flycatcher flew down low and landed on a branch in front of green grasses for a few seconds. I like the background in this photo a lot.

Side note: The willows in the Wasatch Mountain canyon where I photographed this flycatcher are showing signs of distress from our continuing drought. Many of their leaves are yellow, curled, unhealthy looking, and stunted. I am concerned. More than concerned actually.

This last photo shows the Willow Flycatcher high in the small willow thicket on a dead branch. The dark blob below the flycatcher is a photo-bombing Brown-headed Cowbird.

It was wonderful to have this flycatcher in my viewfinder for a few minutes.

Life is good.
