Willet in the waves of the Gulf of Mexico, Fort De Soto County Park, Pinellas County, FloridaWillet in the waves of the Gulf of Mexico – Nikon D200, handheld, f5.6, 1/750, ISO 320, Nikkor 80-400mm at 400mm, natural light

When I look at this photo of a Willet in the waves of the Gulf of Mexico I can almost hear the sounds, taste the tang of salt in the air and feel the warm water on my skin. It was just after sunrise on September 7, 2008 and there was still a hint of warm, golden light.

As I recall I had the beach to myself and I spent sun rise focusing on this Willet, a few Red Knots, a Laughing Gull, and an immature American Oystercatcher that flew by before other people started to show up.

I always took my time there. I walked slowly. Savored the sunrise. Listened to all of the sounds. Stopped where I wanted, stayed as long as I liked and didn’t feel rushed. I miss that.

Sunrise at the north beach of Fort De Soto back then was wonderful, peaceful, and very relaxing. Ah, the wonderful memories.

Life is good.
