Swimming immature Tundra Swan, Farmington Bay WMA, Davis County, UtahSwimming immature Tundra Swan – Nikon D500, f11, 1/800, ISO 500, +0.7 EV, Nikkor 500mm VR with 1.4x TC, natural light

Two mornings ago at Farmington Bay WMA I had a swimming immature Tundra Swan in my viewfinder for a few minutes. I haven’t photographed the Tundra Swans as often as I would like this winter but in the past few weeks I have gotten some images of them that I really like.

The last time I shared Tundra Swan images here all four of the swans were adults that I photographed at Bear River MBR.

This young Tundra Swan foraged for aquatic vegetation as I photographed it moving slowly across the surface of a pond that reflected the bright blue sky. A little bit of the mud from the bottom of the pond can be seen on top of the swan’s head.

It won’t be long before all of the Tundra Swans head north to their breeding grounds. I know that I will miss seeing these large white birds and hearing their calls throughout the warmer months of the year.

Life is good.
