My first bird of the year was a Great Horned Owl I heard around 4:35 this morning. I never saw them, but that call cut through the New Year darkness.

Hearing a Great Horned Owl at the very start of the year feels like a blessing whispered in the dark. Wisdom, intuition, protection, and change all wrapped into one unforgettable moment. If the year needed an opening line, that was a spectacular one for me.

I still don’t know which bird I’ll actually see first in 2026, but I do know I’m looking forward to seeing as many birds as possible in the New Year. And I’m hoping to photograph most of those feathered beauties too!

I wish each and every one of you plenty of birds, joy, and fulfillment for the New Year.

Life is good. Happy New Year!

Mia
