2019 Dream BirdsDream Birds of 2019

I wasn’t awake as people in the Mountain time zone in the U.S. counted down until midnight and celebrated the arrival of 2019. Before I went to sleep though I wondered about what birds I’ll see and have in my viewfinder 2019. Right now I don’t know what will be the first bird I see in 2019 but I know I’ll be happy to see it no matter what species it is.

Right now I have zero stories to tell about the images I will take in 2019 but I do have a freshly formatted memory card and a fully charged battery in my camera ready for whatever birds this new year brings. The images will be taken and the stories behind them will be written one day at a time and they will become as vivid as all of the previous photos I have ever taken.

As a side note I need to make a correction on the number of days I was out in the field in 2018, I did get out yesterday afternoon when the clouds parted and took a few more bird images before the end of the year so my total for days in the field in 2018 is now 182.

New Year's Eve American Wigeon, Salt Lake County, UtahNew Year’s Eve American Wigeon – Nikon D500, f7.1, 1/1250, ISO 500, Nikkor 500mm VR with 1.4x TC, natural light

This American Wigeon was one of the last birds I photographed in 2018. It was icy cold, the wind was blowing and I was happy to be there photographing it. The actual last bird I photographed in 2018 was a Ring-billed Gull flying in front of a few fluffy, white clouds.

So back to the question of what birds will this New Year bring? The ones I get out and find of course.

Life is good.

Happy New Year to all, may 2019 bring you joy and light.

Mia
