Yesterday I wrote that a mini-bike scared the birds at my local pond two days ago. This urban Ring-billed Gull didn’t fly off. It stood its ground. Actually the “ground” was a fishing platform.

I watched the gull as the gull watched the mini-bike zoom past us both on the sidewalk. To my mind, the gull didn’t look happy about the noise that mini-bike created at all. I can’t say that I appreciated it either.

I’ve found that the urban gulls that I see at my local pond to be far less skittish than the ones I see at Farmington Bay WMA, Bear River MBR, and other more “wild” areas. They are more approachable. Which is great for me because I love photographing these birds and I only had a reach of 300mm two days ago.

I needed a nature fix and between the few birds I photographed and the spectacular mountains views, I got it.

Life is good.
