I saw Bald Eagles every time I went to Sequoyah NWR with my friend, Steve Creek. This morning, I am sharing a photo of a Bald Eagle calling from the refuge.

We would usually see the Bald Eagles at the refuge perched in a tree near the Arkansas River just after sunrise. Often, they would take flight before Steve and I reached this tree, but we could still observe them from a distance. Their nest, located a distance from the road, was within their line of sight from where they perched in this tree. These eagles could keep an eye on their young from this tree and look for fish in the river at the same time.

I didn’t photograph many raptors at the refuge, but I appreciated seeing and photographing the Bald Eagles, young Black Vultures, and an immature Red-shouldered Hawk.

During my journey to help my mom transition from this plane of life to the next, I also spotted Bald Eagles and Ospreys in Virginia. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to photograph those birds because all I had were my cell phone and tablet cameras, but I still enjoyed seeing them.

Birds were a constant source of comfort for me during my journey, as were my sons, William and Chris. Additionally, my niece, Kristal, my mom’s closest friends, Ethel and Teresa, long-time family friends, Lil and Dirk, my bonus grandsons, Nick and Kevin, and Steve, along with his dog, Rosie, also provided comfort, solace, love, and compassion.

In addition, I had friends that checked in on me too using text messages and phone calls. All of those helped me cope as well.

My deepest and most sincere thanks to you all.

Life is good.

Mia
