On my most recent trip to Sequoyah National Wildlife Refuge, I was happy to find both adults and one Barred Owl chick at Miner’s Cove just after sunrise.

The trip I made to the refuge before that, I didn’t get to photograph the owls because they weren’t at Miner’s Cove that day. I thought the owl family had moved on to better hunting grounds.

I’ve had such a wonderful time photographing Barred Owls since I left Utah, they were an owl species I missed seeing, hearing, and photographing while I lived there.

Here, I can even hear them calling in the trees outside when I get up in the morning and listen to them from the front porch.

I was even able to take a few videos of the Barred Owl chick that morning as it called for food and moved around on a broken willow branch.

Every time I go to the refuge I look for Barred Owls, they are such wonderful subjects.

Life is good. Happy Summer Solstice!
