I dug way back into my archives for this photo of a willet with waves rolling in from the Gulf of Mexico, taken in 2008 at Fort De Soto County Park in Florida.
There are two species of Willets which are Prairie and Saltmarsh. Here in Utah I only see the Prairie but in Florida I could see both
Early morning light is a delight and adds a nice mood to images like this one of a Saltmarsh Willet in flight.
I've had the good fortune to photograph both the Saltmarsh and Prairie Willets in breeding plumage in Florida and in Utah and Montana.
The Saltmarsh Willet is thought by many people to be a "plain brown bird" but I find their subtle coloring quite appealing whether they are in breeding or nonbreeding plumage.
