This first winter Common Goldeneye drake had no issues with getting close to me as I photographed it on a chilly December afternoon.
I noticed one of the drake Common Goldeneyes assume a Head-forward posture and aimed my lens at him because I knew that was part of this species courtship display and even though the light was low I wanted to photograph some of the courtship behavior.
It is hard to figure out who is the lucky duck here, the Common Goldeneye for catching the crayfish or me for seeing the duck with the crayfish and photographing it.
I love what I do, I love my subjects and it doesn't matter if I find them close to home or further away. I am blessed. 2017 has been wonderful and I am excited for what 2018 may bring.
